Dynamics of deformable self-propelled particles
Abstract:
A theory of self-propelled particles is developed in two dimensions assuming
that the particles can be deformed from a circular shape when the propagating
velocity is increased. A coupled set of equations in terms of the velocity of
the center of gravity, a second rank tensor and a third rank tensor to represent
the deformation is derived starting with an excitable reaction diffusion system.
A rich variety of dynamics has been obtained by numerical simulations of a single
particle such as circular motion, zig-zag motion and chaotic motion depending
the parameters.
